“You are inside a very great story.”— J. R. R. Tolkien
We are mythic beings, inside a very great story. But sometimes it’s hard to get out of bed in the morning, isn’t it?
A lot of people get lost on their spiritual journeys. Which way to spiritual adulting? How do we mature and grow into adult life, from spiritual childhood into responsible saints? (This is not age-related by the way.)
The Mythic Monastery proposes a creative approach: a framework to provide support and direction for growth, like a trellis for a vine. Mythic structure, a storytelling device to create good stories, helps us frame our stories and narrow our focus so we are not overwhelmed.
Through story and film, monastic practices and spiritual disciplines, archetypes and mentors, The Mythic Monastery brings biblical foundations, critical thinking, and creative vision to the chaos of 21st C. life. With links to Star Wars, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and other films, The Mythic Monastery feeds the imagination as well as the intellect. The Author and the Finisher of our stories knows how to mature us. We can rest in his promise that he will complete what he started (Philippians 1:6).
